Our instructors at Fieldcraft Defense are former U.S. Military and Law Enforcement Officers with decades of experience in small arms tactics, high-threat security, and asset protection. We are dedicated to delivering top-tier training to individuals of all skill levels, with the goal of building the confidence and readiness needed to defend what matters most.

Our mission is simple. To impart the knowledge and skills that we attained through our years of service to those with a desire to learn. We developed top-tier training concepts in pistol, rifle and concealed carry to take teams and individuals to the next level.

Our Instructors
Billy Baxter
  Born and raised in sunny SoCal surfing and riding dirt bikes Billy joined the Navy at 18 immediately after graduating high school. Billy served 5 years as a Navy combat engineer (SEABEE) deploying 4 times with NMCB-7. After his last deployment before re-enlisting Billy was assigned to the training department as an RSO with the battalion specializing in small arms instruction. After signing a 3 year enlistment for a new NEC (9545) Billy was sent for training at Lackland AFB with a Naval Law Enforcement Specialist billet and stationed at Weapons Station Seal Beach. While there Billy was assigned to Patrol and Training department and developed a love for training and marksmanship. Billy separated from the Navy with an Honorable Discharge and moved to the western slope of Colorado with his wife and founded Fieldcraft Defense LLC in 2016. Aside from being an avid shooter Billy is a certified NRA instructor, RSO and has completed instructor training courses from various organizations.  Billy and his wife Selena are raising their daughter and love camping, traveling and boating as a family.
Jason Elliott
  Raised on the western slope of Colorado with a short "stint" in north Texas, Jdawg is a Navy combat vet serving a total of 22 years working for and with the US government. He spent sixteen years in the Navy as a SEAL sniper, sniper instructor and then moved on to private military contracting with USIS. As the DPM of Iraqi Special Operations Police in Iraq for over 6 years, his ERU teams ran hundreds of combat operations with both CJSOTF and NAVSPECWAR and was later tasked with removing ISIS from Mosul in 2017-18.  Jdawg currently resides back in Colorado continuing to teach combat pistol/carbine and long range precision rifle for Fieldcraft Defense, certified as an NRA Instructor and is a member of Shadow Warriors Foundation K9 demo team.  He is an avid hunter and is working on his most important task in life, raising his amazing son Zayden in the mountains.
Jason Bailey
  Jason is native to the Western Slope of Colorado and grew up hunting and shooting from a young age.  In 2005 he enlisted in the US Marines as an infantryman.  He was assigned as a scout in 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion and served two tours in Iraq.  Jason also earned a secondary (MOS) as a combat marksmanship instructor in 2006.  Jason was Honorably Discharged in 2009 with the rank or Sergeant.In 2016 Jason donned a new uniform becoming a deputy for the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.  Jason serves as a patrol Deputy, Field training Officer, Firearms Instructor and Swat Operator/Sniper.  Jason led the (MRDS) program for the county and was integral in getting deputies equipped with red dot sights on their duty weapons. Jason is a P.O.S.T certified full skills firearms instructor, MRDS handgun, (Klieber Defense & Sage Dynamics) Patrol Rifle Carbine and Hostage Rescue Instructor.  Jason has been instructing with Fieldcraft Defense since 2020. Jason resides in the Grand Junction area with his wife and two children.
Mitchell Meens
Mitch grew up in western Colorado. Â He worked in the oil and gas industry until he attended the police academy in the state of Alaska in 2015. He worked as a patrol officer in the city of Sitka. Â During his time he assisted as a field training officer (FTO) and with the narcotics investigations unit. Mitchell transferred to the Mesa County sheriff's office and currently works as a patrol deputy, SWAT officer, firearms instructor, Defensive Tactics, Close Quarters Battle instructor (CQB), Active threat response instructor, and Field Training Officer (FTO). Â Mitch resides in Mesa County with his wife and children.Â
